Muir Beach

The first running destination is to wake up the legs, and what better destination than Muir Beach. This quiet alcove is a favorite destination for people from the Bay area since the beautiful coastline is frequented by abundant wildlife. Located just a few miles west of Muir Woods, the beach has a coastal trail and Kaashi Way, multi-use and accessible to many.

The overlook provides an expansive view of Point Reyes Peninsula and the Vast Pacific ocean. When you’re done running, you can stick around to explore observation posts that were part of the San Francisco coastal defense system.

Whale watching at Muir Beach can often be fruitful as the giant marine mammals swim by this area on their winter migrations.

Dipsea, Steep Ravine, and Matt Davis

Come check out sections of the Miwok 100K event, one of the iconic trail ultras in the world. See how your legs do on this hilly terrain with spectacular views of San Francisco, Mount Tamalpais, and the California coastline. The trail features singletrack trails and dirt roads.

This trail starts at the Pacific Ocean and winds up to the Pantoll Ranger Station. We begin along the Dipsea trail in Stinton Beach, where the Miwok 100K begins. Then we will climb the 1000 feet to the station within 1.5 miles, through some of the best hiking in the country. The water through this canyon creates a steep, lush pathway through towering redwood trees.

There are two waterfalls we’ll pass along the way, making for nice little breaks during the run.

The Miwok 100K got its name from one of the main trails of the early course. The trail was named after the Coast Miwok, who lived in this area from about 3000 years ago into the 1900s. The Miwok tribe is indigenous to Northern California, and the word Miwok means People.

So Many Trails

We will check out some of the paths of the Dipsea, one of the oldest trail races in America. The scenic course is considered one of the more beautiful courses in the world. However, that beauty is hard-won, and the stairs and steep trails make it a grueling and treacherous race.

Coastal To Cardiac and Back

Come check out a section of the iconic Mt. Tam Trail Run, a classic 50k trail race. Enjoy the lush forests and fern-laden trails of Muir Beach. This area is home to one of the most iconic species of California, the Coastal Redwood. These colossal giants will leave you stunned at the scope and scale of the forest.

Push yourself on the way up to Cardiac Hill. The views from the top will be worth it!
